Benevilla Benefitness Adaptive Gym Offering Smart Glove

The Benevilla Benefitness Adaptive Gym is excited to announce they are offering a new interactive device, the Smart Glove, worn on the hand to improve hand, wrist, and finger agility as well as shoulder mobility. The Smart Glove measures movements of the forearm, wrist, and fingers using sensors which provide a quantitative measurement of dexterity and mobility. The Smart Glove works interactively through entertaining games and activities to increase hand and arm movement as well as functionality.

One of goals when using the Smart Glove is to improve movement through retraining the brain and its ability to rewire itself after a stroke, physical injury, or brain injury. Through targeted exercises this device goes beyond traditional resistance bands to create occupation-based hand exercises in an entertaining virtual reality environment. The Smart Glove program offers 5 ways to improve movement for users: multi-sensory feedback, a wide variety of engaging games and activities challenging users as mobility improves, customizable goals, session tracking and evaluations and on-going support. Each session is led by a Benefitness expert with your personalized goals and strategies in mind. The coach uses the quantitative data from the Smart Glove to ensure you do your exercises correctly. The Benefitness coach receives instant feedback from the device to evaluate your performance. Only minimal movement needed for success. This offering is open to the public. A Benefitness Gym membership is not required. Those interested in an evaluation can schedule an assessment and create a training schedule from there.

Since using the Smart Glove, I’ve been able to drastically improve the use of my fingers, my wrist, and moving my arm back and forth” said Benefitness participant, Joe M.

The goal of the Benefitness Adaptive Gym is to prove that physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle is no longer out of reach for anyone. Lorrie Karn, the Director of Benefitness and her team of specially trained and nationally certified coaches provide specialized group and individual fitness programs and classes helping strengthen those with early onset diagnoses and physical ailments (e.g., Parkinson’s, dementia, MS, and more). Their programs help improve participant’s physical efficiencies, mental acuity, strength, balance, and overall wellbeing. Unlike a typical gym, Benefitness provides adaptive equipment for individuals in wheelchairs, people with limited motion, and those who are differently abled.

“We are so excited to add the Smart Glove to our repertoire of physical fitness resources at Benefitness. It’s another innovative and exciting way to help those in our community with different abilities, special considerations, and on-going clinical needs,” said Lorrie. “All of our program help improve the quality of life of our members, improve their strength and balance and improve their ability to perform routine tasks of daily life.”

Benefitness Adaptive Gym is located on the Surprise campus of the non-profit Benevilla at 16752 N. Greasewood St., Surprise, 85378. Benefitness offers a wide range of individualized and small group classes working on balance and stability as well as flexibility, joint range of motion, muscle elongation cardiovascular training, muscular resistance training and core development.

Benefitness is one of only 900 worldwide locations offering “Rock Steady Boxing,” a unique non-contact boxing-inspired exercise program developed specifically for individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Proudly bringing adaptive fitness to our Surprise community!
